Every software package contains a full set of examples suitable for that version and are installed with the software. If you see examples here that are not in your installation you should consider updating to a later version of the software. These examples can be used by beginners and advanced users for product evaluation, teaching purposes, and self-training.

Required Modules

Victory Mesh

  • 3D Meshing
  • 3D Solid Modeling

In this example, 3D Solid Modeling with Victory Mesh is used to demonstrate the functionality of the SPLICE and COMBINE commands. The same can also be done on 2D shapes.

NOTE: COMBINE and SPLICE are typically used together and are different to JOIN.

COMBINE and SPLICE are used when you are operating on a surface mesh and you want to insert one shape inside another. There should be no overlaps of the shape boundaries – one shape is completely inside the other. This is because the COMBINE command does not operate on the geometry and if a shape extended outside the host shape then geometry modification would be required.

A rectangle of silicon is formed using the CUBOID statement and a surface mesh (SKELTON) built. A slightly smaller circle of oxide is similarly made.

Before the silicon circle can be inserted into the oxide rectangle, it must be prepared on using the SPLICE command. The SPLICE command essentially creates a second surface mesh and should be of material type that matches the host material.

As the circle now has a second skeleton mesh of oxide, it can be inserted into the oxide rectangle using the COMBINE flag.
