Silvaco University Program: TCAD and EDA Software for Academic Institutions
Accredited universities teach and research on Silvaco TCAD and EDA software through the Silvaco University Program, and more than 200 already take part.

Your students get easy access to Silvaco’s TCAD and EDA tools
while they train as semiconductor design engineers.
What is offered
Pick by discipline. Device and process work runs on the TCAD Academic Omni License, which opens the full Silvaco TCAD suite. Circuit design coursework runs on the EDA Academic Suite, built around the design functions a commercial flow depends on. Both include software updates.
Entry requirements
Only accredited universities and colleges that grant degrees can join. The institution is the applicant, and everyone else, from first-year students to lab heads, works under its licenses.
Restrictions
The licenses are for academic research and teaching, nothing else. If commercial activity shows up, the academic licenses end immediately and permanently, and other liabilities follow. Silvaco provides no technical software support under the program, so support stays in-house.

Students
You’ll reach the software through your course or research group, not an account of your own. That puts you on the same TCAD and EDA software thousands of students already learn with.
Educators
One curriculum package licenses your entire class. For lab work, Silvaco’s training material and worked application examples give you starting points to build assignments from.
Researchers
Research gets its own low-cost license type. The TCAD Academic Omni License covers every TCAD framework, so a project can move from process to device simulation without licensing each tool separately. It runs on the validated physics Silvaco’s production customers rely on. The published TCAD papers show where other groups have taken it.
Department administrators
The licenses are the institution’s to run. You decide who gets access and keep watch on how it’s used, because a single commercial project puts the whole academic arrangement at risk. Teaching and research sit on different license types, so apply for the mix your faculty need.

Questions about the Silvaco University Program
Who is eligible for the University Program?
The Silvaco University Program is open to academic institutions that are accredited and grant degrees. Applications come from the institution, never from an individual, and the institution stays responsible for how its licenses are used. Companies, and commercial projects of any kind, license Silvaco software on standard commercial terms.
What software is included?
Two bundles. The TCAD Academic Omni License puts every Silvaco TCAD framework on a single license, for a fixed annual fee, with one tool running at a time, and it can sit alongside term-based licenses for individual tools. The EDA Academic Suite holds the licenses a student needs to learn the core EDA design functions. Updates are included.
Is there a cost?
Yes. Academic licenses are paid, but priced for university budgets: research runs on a low-cost license type, a curriculum package puts a full class on one license, and the TCAD Academic Omni License carries a fixed annual fee. Silvaco doesn’t publish academic prices, so ask academic sales to quote for your institution.
Is technical support included?
No. Academic licenses come without technical software support, and that’s one of the clearest differences from a commercial license, where support is built into the fee. Software updates are still included, and your group can work from Silvaco’s published documentation and training material.
Can the software be used for funded research?
Only academic research qualifies. The licenses cover research and teaching, and commercial work of any kind costs the institution its academic licenses for good, along with other liabilities. Your institution, which administers the licenses, is responsible for keeping every project inside those limits.
How does a university apply?
The institution applies, not an individual. In North and South America, send the application to academicsales@silvaco.com; in every other region, go through the nearest Silvaco sales office. Say whether the licenses are for a taught course or a research project, since each has its own license type, and list the TCAD or EDA tools involved.
