Every software package contains a full set of examples suitable for that version and are installed with the software. If you see examples here that are not in your installation you should consider updating to a later version of the software. These examples can be used by beginners and advanced users for product evaluation, teaching purposes, and self-training.

The energy balance transport model can be used to improve the simulation of impact ionization by implementing ionization models based upon the carrier temperature instead of the electric field. The carrier temperature is a more meaningful basis as the velocity-field relationship is more closely modeled. This allows a non-local dependence on the electric field within the impact ionization model. Energy Balance Transport Models will therefore result in more accurate simulations of breakdown voltage and substrate current. To obtain the solutions around the breakdown point, we use MAXTRAP as a compliance parameter.
