New ES Design West Links Electronic Product Design and Manufacturing Supply Chains

March 29, 2019 By Thomas Blaesi

I was at the SEMICON show in China last week. The crowds were enormous, and the energy was intense. Whatever you might think about the consolidation at the front-end of the SoC design chain, the back-end is continuing to thrive and grow. But you may not know there is a new synergy between the traditional SEMI manufacturing audience and the system design focus of the ESD-Alliance which recently became an independent association of SEMI.org.

OMG, This Year’s DAC is in Las Vegas — What Can I Expect?

March 11, 2019 By Thomas Blaesi

The beauty of the Design Automation Conference is that it is always the same and never the same. There is no technical conference like it. Every year there is the Technical Program, the Designer Track, IP Track and the Exhibition. And the networking opportunities with customers and colleagues is second to none. But each year is different, and I want to share what I see are the exciting new opportunities with DAC this year.

SPICE Model Generation by Machine Learning

May 18, 2018 By Thomas Blaesi

It was 1988 when I got into SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) while I was characterizing a 1.5 μm Standard cell library developed by students at my Alma-Mata Furtwangen University in Germany. My professor Dr. Nielinger was not only my advisor he also wrote the first SPICE bible in German language. At that time SPICE simulation was already established as the “golden” Simulator for circuit design for over a decade – and remains so to this day.
