Much work has recently gone into the development of the so called second generation technologies. These technologies focus on reduced production costs mainly by relying on thin film materials such as amorphous silicon and CIGS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;\">Emerging third generation technologies are targeting improving the efficiencies of first and second generation cells while maintaining relatively low cost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;\">In this article we discuss how the ATLAS simulation framework can be used to model one important third generation technology.
