A token card is ideal for use in overflow situations, mobile users and for occasional tool use.

Example of Token Card Use

A user purchases 20 token hours online for a business trip, charging the hardware key with 20 hours of token time.
During the flight the user edits a schematic for 1 hour. As Gateway requires 4 tokens to run, 4x1hr = 4 hrs is deducted from the card’s balance.

While editing the schematic the user runs 3 SmartSpice simulations. Each run lasts for 1 minute. As SmartSpice requires 6 tokens, each run deducts 6 x 1 = 6 minutes or 18 minutes total from the card’s balance.

The card now has a remaining balance of 15 hours and 42 minutes.

 

Token Card vs Universal Tokens

A charged Token Card provides an amount of software run time that has a one year expiration date unless additional purchases are made within that year, and can be used in time chunks as necessary. As the card is used and tools are run, time is permanently deducted from the remaining balance, just like calls charged to a phone card.

Universal Tokens provide a fixed term lease for a number of tokens. As tools are run they check tokens out from the pool but upon completion they return the tokens to the pool for use by other tools.
